The Credit Union Poster Competition:

The Credit Union Poster Competition is one of the most successful annual promotions undertaken by the Credit Union Movement and the 2010 competition aims to continue this winning formula.

The competition is about encouraging and rewarding self expression, creativity and imagination among young artists throughout Ireland.

The Theme of this year’s Competition is ‘Local. Trusted. Serving you.’

Credit unions from all over Ireland gathered on Sunday February 13th for the annual Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) Poster Competition Awards and Exhibition at Dublin’s Gresham Hotel. Illustrating the theme ‘Local, Trusted, Serving you’ the awards were presented by Jimmy Johnstone of the ILCU and Radio / TV celebrity Marty Whelan.

Now in its 27th year the poster competition attracts up to 50,000 entries through 300 credit unions nationwide. The annual event is one of the most successful annual promotions undertaken by the credit union movement and the 2011 event has continued this winning formula.

Speaking at the presentation, Jimmy Johnstone said: Credit unions have a proud history of serving communities all over the country. This competition is very important to us and is all about encouraging and rewarding self expression, creativity and imagination among young Irish artists. It is vitally important at this time to develop community spirit through involvement and to encourage children to be creative in what are difficult times for many families.

He concluded: I commend the high standard of this year’s entries and I would also like to thank the hundreds of credit union volunteers and staff and the competition judges who all worked to make this year’s competition another success for this unique community focused project.

Judge, Mr. Adrian Van der Lee – Creative Director of Adept Advertising Agency said: “I am really was impressed with the quality of submissions. The competition showed a high standard of entry overall. It is encouraging during a time of technologically advancement to see young people expressing themselves in this way.”

The judges for this year’s poster competition were: Maeve O’Connell, Marketing Manager, the Irish Daily Star, Mr Adrian Van der Lee, Creative Director, Adept Advertising Agency and artist Ursula Retzlaff O’Connell.
