ILCU to engage with Minister and MLAs on new legislation
The Irish League of Credit Unions has welcomed the statement by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Arlene Foster MLA which outlined a commitment to introduce new credit union legislation which would allow credit unions in Northern Ireland to expand the range of their activities and reach out to new groups in the community.
Rosemary O' Doherty, Chair of the ILCU Northern Ireland Committee said:
"The introduction of such reforms for credit unions in Northern Ireland has been sought for some time by the League on behalf of member credit unions. We believe the commitment to publish a new Credit Union Northern Ireland Bill will allow us to expand the role we play in local communities.
The ILCU will be involved in extensive discussions with the Minister, MLAs and the Department to ensure that Credit Union members will have access to further enhanced services.
As we look to expand the role of credit unions the one thing that will never change is our community ethos and the 410,000 people across Northern Ireland who use Credit Unions can be assured that for us members always matter most".
