While welcoming the Minister’s intervention Kieron Brennan confirmed that the Irish League of Credit Unions’ own Savings Protection Scheme, covering its 521 member credit unions, now stands at over €110 million.

Government guarantee makes credit unions even safer than banks for savers

The Government has announced this morning that it is to guarantee all deposits in Irish banks. The banks that are covered are: Allied Irish Bank, Bank of Ireland, Anglo Irish Bank, Irish Life and Permanent, Irish Nationwide Building Society and the Educational Building Society and specific subsidiaries that may be approved by Government following consultation with the Central Bank and the Financial Regulator.

Credit unions launch 18th annual All-Ireland Schools Quiz

With over 25,000 children under 13 years of age expected to compete this year, the Irish League of Credit Unions’ School Quiz is now the biggest quiz in Ireland – for either adults or children. This major schools competition, run throughout the winter in communities all over Ireland, is organised by volunteers from ILCU’s 521 member credit unions.
