ILCU statement regarding the change in Registrar of Credit Unions at the Central Bank of Ireland

Posted on: 26 May 2022

The Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) notes yesterday’s announcement (Wednesday 25th May) from the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) of a change in the Registrar of Credit Unions due to the appointment of Patrick Casey to the role of Head of Consumer Policy and Research at CBI. Deputy Registrar Elaine Byrne is being appointed acting Registrar of Credit Unions, pending the outcome of the recruitment process for the Registrar role.

The ILCU would like to congratulate Mr Casey on his new appointment and to thank him for his contribution to the development of the credit union sector over the past five years. While the ILCU has not always agreed with the views expressed by the Registrar, we recognise the importance of regulation and supervision for credit unions as they expand their business models into the future. We wish Mr Casey well in his new role and look forward to working with the acting Registrar Elaine Byrne.
