The “For Saving Lives” video tells the true story of John, whose life was saved because of access to a defibrillator, funded by Westport Credit Union.  Living approximately an hour away from Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar, John’s survival depended not on how quickly he could reach hospital, but on what was available in his own community in that critical moment. When the emergency happened, Louisburg Order of Malta were able to access the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) funded by the credit union and worked on John for over 43 minutes.
 

In rural communities where distance from hospital care can mean the difference between life and death, the foresight to fund and install a defibrillator creates a vital chain of survival. Credit unions across Ireland have been funding this need and installing defibrillators in their local communities to ensure immediate access to life-saving equipment when it matters most, and John is just one person whose life was saved as part of that much wider impact.
