Staycation Deals in Ireland: 8 Low-cost Ideas

We’ve all learned from last year’s staycations - crisps in the car, that last-minute dash to book activities. Round two of holidaying in Ireland – we got this.

In 2021 you may also fine yourself a little more price wary. That's why we’ve rounded up some low-cost staycation options - from cabins to beach huts, farmyard hostels and remote self catering apartments. Many have been snapped up already, but there are still some spots left over the summer.

1. Geraghty’s Farmyard Pods

These cute little wooden pods are set in a stunning location on the beach in Belmullet. With 90% of couples preferring this location on Booking.com, and quoted at starting at only €100 per night, they truly are a brilliant Staycation option this summer. There are a few nights left on Booking.com, but they seem to be very popular.

2. Nire Valley Eco camp

‘The best gidden gem if you want to connect with nature – bedrooms in a meadow’ Nire Valley is set in a stunning location in Waterford, immersed in the landscape.

When we checked their website, they only have a few nights availability left; but three nights in July for a family of four was just €352.

3. Bluebell Cottage, Kilmore Quay

Bluebell Cottage is situated in Kilmore Quay, a short walk from the harbour and beaches.

While the cottage is fully booked for July and most of August they seem to have availability for three nights from 30 August for €350 for up to four people. In September, they have a four night mid-week break available for €400 from Monday 14 September or a four night weekend stay available for €485 from Thursday 24 September.

4. Abhainn Ri Holiday Cottages, Co Wicklow

Abhainn Ri Farm is overlooking the Wicklow hills and Kings River (Abhainn Ri) as it flows into the Blessington lakes.

The four identical cottages have three bedrooms and sleep six people.  Five nights in August start from €1,190. Four start from €900.

5. Further Space

Stunning wooden pods set in forests, beaches and natural backdrops of Northern Ireland, Further Space provides a different kind of staycation. At the moment they are only in Northern Ireland the UK, with new sites coming to the republic of Ireland this Winter.

Each glamping pod is cosy, fully furnished with a shower room. They give you all the comforts of home, but in spectacular locations.

Checking their site, this unique spot is being snapped up quickly, with only a few dates remaining. Checking their website, two adults and two children can stay in one pod in Newry (one kind bed and on set of bunks) for three nights form 16th August to the 19th, for a total of £420.

6. The Cabins

Beautiful wooden cabins set in the Wicklow countryside, it’s perfect for a family getaway amongst nature. Described on booking.com:

“The location was great. Owner was very nice. Mince pies waiting in the cabin for us. Perfect little get-away for the kids. I will definitely be back.”

7. Valley Lodge Farmhouse

This farmhouse set in the middle of the stunning Mayo countryside offers private rooms with garden view, for a real knock-bottom price - €46 per night for two people; and €60 for two people for the bed and breakfast.

What’s great about Valley Lodge is it’s set within a working farm, with animals, free-range poultry, and pets – so great for families with kids. Guests can enjoy walks in the grounds or surrounding area of County Mayo.

If you're really tightening the purse strings this year, this could be a tempting option.

8. Atlantic Sunset Apartments

As the name suggests, these stunning self catering house offer beautiful beach, river, mountain and garden views! What more could you ask for? Set in Portmagee, a double room with a private garden patio and seaview for just €85 for one night.
