Assistant Manager – Maternity Cover

General scope of the role

The Assistant Manager will be responsible for carrying out a range of administrative and operational activities that contribute to the effective running of this progressive credit union, deputising for the manager in their absence. In the capacity of Money Laundering Reporting Officer role, they will report directly to the board of directors and will help maintain anti-money laundering and terrorist financing policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Manager, the Assistant Manager’s main responsibilities will be:

  • Assisting in the management of the day to day activities of the credit union

  • Prepare weekly rosters

  • Manage payroll including submission of data to revenue and pension providers

  • Supervision of bank reconciliations and reconciliation

  • Assist the Manager with the co-ordination/preparation of internal audits and taking a lead in the resolution of audit queries;

  • Daily review with Cash Supervisor to ensure all counter transactions are properly recorded, classified and summarised and accurate cash balancing takes place at end of day.

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and ensure all staff are trained on policies, procedures and legal requirements.

  • Ensure all staff operating on member services are fully informed of available services and capable of advising members in terms of knowledge and documentation

  • Act as Training Officer and develop a training plan

  • Act as a member of the Management Team. Attend and contribute to Management Team meetings, general staff meetings and if necessary Board meetings.

  • Manage relationships with third party service providers, as required.

  • Resolve operational issues.  

  • Act as Money Laundering Reporting Officer.

  • Attend and contribute to meetings of such committees as may be directed by the Manager­­­­­­.

The successful candidate will have:

  • The ability to work on own initiative and drive change

  • Preferably, have a recognised accounting qualification or 5 years or more relevant experience in a finance function, ideally as part of a team

  • Staff supervision experience

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience and knowledge of the regulatory environment governing Irish Credit Unions in the credit union sector would be a distinct advantage

  • Good financial and analytical skills and a high level of ICT literacy

  • Sound understanding of credit and associated risks
