Cashier (Full-Time Contract)

General Scope of Role

Our cashiers engage directly with our Members at our front counter in our Wine Street, Collooney and Drumkeerin offices. The primary function of the Cashier role is to accurately accept and disburse cash lodgements to our Member’s share accounts; to receive loan repayments and issue new loans to Members.
In addition, our cashiers assist our Members in accessing services and amending payments as necessary and cover off a large element of the administrative functions of Member data updates.  



We have an immediate requirement for a full-time Cashier to join our front counter team, the working week will be Tuesday to Saturday.  

Summary of Role

The Cashier, who will report to our Senior Counter Official, will be responsible for a range of administration and operational activities that contribute to the effective running of the day-to-day operations of Sligo Credit Union. Flexibility is required for this position.

Principal Activities

  • Provide a top-quality service to members at our front counter.

  • Accurately and diligently handle cash, including foreign exchange, and reconcile end of day balances.

  • Process secure loan applications and refer any documents to the relevant loan officer.

  • Process all loan drawdowns to our members.

  • Update members accounts adhering to AML legislation.

  • Setting members up on our online system.

  • Undertake relevant training as required.

  • Handle administrative and a range of supportive tasks.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by our Senior Counter Official.

  • Consistently work in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner, preserving the confidentiality of our members and adhering to our work policies.

Compliance Responsibilities

In carrying out his/her duties on behalf of the credit union the appointed cashier will always act in compliance with the standard rules of our Credit Union, the Credit Union Act 1997 to 2012, Consumer Credit Directive and other relevant legislation and regulation.

Key Attributes

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Excellent member service, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Cash handling skills in a Credit Union or financial institution are essential.

  • Excellent IT skills.

  • Excellent administration skills and attention to detail.

  • Professional qualification relating to Credit Union or general financial services would be of benefit but not essential.
