CEO – Tallaght & District Credit Union
Our client, a large community credit union based in Tallaght, is seeking to recruit a CEO.
This is an excellent opportunity to continue to lead the further development of a well-run community-based credit union providing for the financial needs of its members in a co-operative and professional manner.
The Credit Union
Tallaght & District Credit Union is long established community-based credit union with assets of €67 million, a senior management team of 3 and a total of 11 employees.
Develop the strategic and annual business plans and budgets in conjunction with the Board of Directors
Provide leadership in achieving the strategic goals and plans on behalf of the Board of Directors and reporting on its progress
Support the Board of Directors and committees in the performance of their duties
Consult with the Board of Directors in identifying positions in the management team essential for the successful management and organisational development of the credit union, and support the Board of Directors regarding their responsibilities re personnel
Lead and develop the senior management team and staff of the Credit Union to deliver the key objectives and goals of the Credit Union
Lead the day-to-day operational management of the Credit Union’s business, including the financial, investment, credit control, business development, marketing, lending, member service/operations, IT/digital delivery, risk, compliance, AML/MLRO, etc. in accordance with legislation and regulations and the plans, objectives, and goals of the Credit Union
Maintain overall responsibility for continuously improving the systems, processes, operating practices, policies, procedures, performance, efficiency and effectiveness across all functions and areas of the credit union e.g. of internal and financial controls, financial and audit processes, segregation of duties, key person and critical task cover, succession plans, lending and operations, credit control, financial management, business development, marketing, lending, member service, IT/digital delivery, risk, compliance, AML/MLRO, etc.
Maintain overall responsibility for all aspects of internal and external audits, Central Bank inspections, reporting to the Central Bank, reporting to the Board of Directors, and the management of each function of the Credit Union to the standards required
Maintain overall responsibility for the ongoing development of all aspects of the Credit Union community-based ethos and values, and the internal culture, engagement, and change management approach
Maintain overall responsibility for human resources, employee relations, performance management, performance reviews, recruitment, training, and development, CPD, culture, health and safety, data protection, etc. and ensure a culture of compliance with all regulations and laws
Lead the continuing development of the Credit Union’s business, products and services, business model development, service to its members, its values and ethos, etc. building on the work to date and steadily enhancing it for the future
Professionally represent the Credit Union in the community and with its members
Professionally represent the Credit Union with key stakeholders such as the credit union representative bodies, regulatory authorities, other credit unions, and service providers
The CEO reports to the Board of Directors through the Chairperson.
The ideal person will have an established and proven track-record of success in management preferably within the financial services, banking, or credit union sectors.
A minimum of 5 years' experience working at a senior management level is required.
Significant experience in managing the customer service, frontline operations in a financial services organisation or credit union is highly desirable.
Significant experience in consumer lending is highly desirable.
Experience In people management and experience in leading and managing an experienced and diverse workforce is required.
A clear understanding of relevant legislation such as the Credit Union Act, Consumer Protection Code, Data Protection, and Criminal Justice Act - MLR&CTF, is required.
A strong understanding of risk management and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements is required.
Experience dealing with the Central Bank would be preferable but is not essential.
A proven history of interaction with Boards and other senior stakeholders is essential.
Familiarity with a not-for-profit organisation is desirable.
A genuine interest in the Credit Union movement and a passion for its values and ethos is essential.
Exceptional people management and motivational skills are required.
Very strong IT and digital transformation skills and continuous improvement and change in IT/digital technology and services are required. The knowledge and experience to understand and manage IT regarding IT services, security and risk is desirable.
Very strong process improvement skills and track record of driving and implementing continuous improvement and change are required.
The ideal person will be able to demonstrate their experience and skills to be able to manage the diverse and varied range of responsibilities of a Credit Union.
He/she may possess a third level qualification, the QFA, and have other Credit Union, Banking or Financial services qualifications. Professional qualifications relating to compliance and/or Risk Management would be desirable but not essential. The ideal candidate may be a qualified accountant or must have significant experience in preparing accounts, and managing bank reconciliations in a financial services business.
He/she will have the ambition, drive, and energy to build on the current success of the Credit Union; the commercial, operational and management ability to further evolve and develop the Credit Union’s business model, services and capability.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are required to communicate with all stakeholders effectively. The ideal person will have excellent relationship building, communications and influencing skills, and the ability to build successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders for the good of the credit union.
He/she will be capable, trusted, and reliable in the management of all situations at all levels with members, staff, management, Board, the regulator and all stakeholders.
He/she will be able to hold the responsibility and accountability to successfully oversee all areas of the Credit Unions activities and operations and to successfully deal with the breadth and diversity of areas they will oversee, and to develop a depth of knowledge and understanding of each area.

Salary & Benefits
The Credit Union will offer generous pay and benefits including salary, pension, and other benefits commensurate with the role and benchmarked with the market. Salary is negotiable, DOE.
Contract & Hours
This is a full-time, permanent contract.
Flexibility in working hours will be essential, as the CEO is required to attend out of normal working hours Board Meetings, sub-committee meetings and represent the Credit Union at appropriate social functions as required.
The role is based in Main Street, Tallaght with working from home one day a week.
