CEO - Credit Union

Our client, a community credit union, is seeking to recruit a CEO.
This is an excellent opportunity to lead the further development of a mid-sized credit union with assets of €49 million, 3 offices and 14 employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and present the strategic and annual business plans and budgets in conjunction with  the Board of Directors.

  • Develop, communicate, and execute the business strategy and plan on behalf of the Board of Directors. Lead and engage  management and staff of the Credit Union to deliver the annual business plans and budgets.

  • Report to the Board of Directors on progress against the strategic and annual business plans and budgets

  • Assist the Board of Directors and committees in the performance of their duties

  • Lead the day-to-day operational management of the Credit Union’s business, including the financial, investment, credit control, business development, marketing, lending, member service, IT/digital delivery, risk, compliance, AML/MLRO, etc. in compliance with legislation and regulations and the strategic and annual business plans and targets

  • Lead, direct, manage, motivate, and develop the management and staff towards the achievement of the goals in all areas of the Credit Union

  • Consult with the Board of Directors in identifying positions in the management team essential for the successful management and organisation development of the credit union, and support the Board of Directors regarding their responsibilities re personnel

  • Maintain overall responsibility for all aspects of culture, engagement, change management, human resources, employee relations, performance management, reviews, 1-1’s, recruitment, training, and development, CPD, culture, health and safety, data protection, etc. and ensure a culture of compliance with all regulations and laws

  • Implement and continuously improve the systems of internal and financial controls,  financial and audit processes, segregation of duties, key person and critical task cover, succession plans etc. across all areas of the Credit Union

  • Maintain overall responsibility for all aspects of internal and external audits, Central Bank inspections, reporting to the Central Bank, reporting to the Board of Directors, etc.

  • Professionally represent the Credit Union with key stakeholders such as the credit union representative bodies, regulatory authorities, other credit unions, service providers, businesses, and the community

  • Lead the continuing development of the Credit Union’s business, and business model development, its values and ethos of service to its members.



The CEO reports to the Board of Directors through the Chairperson.

Person Requirements

The ideal person will have an established and proven track-record of success preferably within the financial services, banking, or credit union sectors. Candidates with proven experience in driving the development of a business are also encouraged. They will have relevant qualifications, training, and experience such as experience in business development, lending management, financial management, operations management, IT management, risk, or compliance management, etc.
The ideal person will be able to demonstrate their strategic, commercial, and business acumen and the ambition, drive and energy to drive the credit Union forward. They will be able to hold the responsibility and accountability to successfully oversee all areas of the Credit Unions activities and operations. They will have the ability to lead the Credit Union forward by being strategic and commercial and by developing relationships, leading  and managing people, and gaining buy-in at all levels internally and externally with key stakeholders.

Salary & Benefits

The Credit Union will offer generous pay and benefits including salary, pension, and other benefits commensurate with the role and benchmarked with the market. Salary is negotiable, DOE.


The role is based in Enfield, Co Meath.
