Credit Control Officer
Ballyfermot Inchicore Credit Union Limited (BICU) is a progressive community-based credit union based in Dublin 10 and Dublin 8. The Credit Union currently has in excess of 17,700 members with over €89 million in assets.
BICU are now recruiting for a permanent full-time Credit Control Officer to support our growth ambitions. The successful candidate will be required to work 35 hours per week and must be available to work across both offices.
Reporting directly to the Head of Credit Control, the Credit Control Officer will be responsible for the implementation of the credit union policies and procedures. You will be working in conjunction with the Credit Control Committee to minimise the number of member accounts in arrears.
You will regularly work with our members through face-to-face meetings, telephone and online communications to provide the highest quality service and advice. You will also be required to liaise with external organisations, as well as support with collating monthly management information to the Board of Directors on all aspects of collections and bad debt control.
This is a unique role requiring an individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, combined with an ability to forge relationships with our members in arrears to ensure they are supported whilst minimising financial losses to the credit union.
This role will work closely with all departments and functions across the Credit Union to ensure compliance with legislation, regulation and best practice in prevention, detection and recovery of debt.
The Credit Control Officer will assist in ensuring that credit control risks in the lending portfolio are identified, managed and mitigated.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
The key responsibilities and tasks of the Credit Control Officer are, but not limited to:
- Maintain a high level of expertise in legislation, regulation and best practice in the Credit Control Function.
- Carrying out credit control duties in accordance with Credit Control Policy; Support the day-to-day credit control activities and daily work list on member accounts.
- Implementing appropriate proactive strategies relating to arrears collection, loan re-scheduling, write-offs, etc.
- Providing support and input to the Credit Control Committee as required.
- Managing credit union interactions with members in arrears, third party debt collection agencies and legal advisors in the area of bad debt as required.
- Supporting with ongoing reviews of credit control and provisioning policies and procedures, proposing and implementing change as necessary.
- Meeting members in arrears to conduct and assess financial reviews with a view to developing tailored repayment plans.
- Identify changes in payment patterns and act accordingly to reduce the risk of bad debts.
- Resolve member queries in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the Head of Credit Control, and the other Assurance functions in maintaining compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of at least one years of experience in a Credit Control Function.
- The ability to demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of the ethos of Credit Unions & Credit Risk Management principles.
- Strong analytical ability and proven judgment.
- Excellent presentation & communication skills.
- Experience in negotiating payment plans.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure & to meet deadlines
- Friendly and approachable, believing in teamwork and collaboration.
- Flexible and responsive to changing business requirements.
- Ability to identify & deliver process improvements.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise a demanding workload
Other Information:
Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Qualification: MCC Compliant – APA or working towards APA Qualification (Loans & Regulation) with a willingness to commit to full qualification within a specified timeline
The role holder will be required to satisfy the minimum competency requirements and meet the required Fitness and Probity Standards as set out by the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity Regime for credit unions.
