Credit Control Officer & Data Protection Representative

As a medium-sized credit union with growth ambitions based in Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Kilcloon Credit Union is looking to recruit for the combined role of Credit Control Officer and Data Protection Representative to support those ambitions. This is a unique and full-time role requiring a methodical individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, combined with an ability to use initiative. It is expected that approximately 70% of the individual’s time would be taken up with credit control work, with the remainder on data protection work. The successful individual will also form part of the management team.

 

The Role

 

As the Credit Control Officer you will report to the CEO and will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out credit control duties in accordance with Credit Control Policy;

  • Implementing appropriate proactive strategies relating to arrears collection, loan re-scheduling, write-offs, etc;

  • Applying and maintaining appropriate provisioning standards, in accordance with Provisioning Policy and regulatory guidelines, including carrying out regular in-depth loan book reviews;

  • Providing support and input to the Credit Control Committee as required; 

  • Leading and managing credit union interactions with members in arrears, 3rd party debt collection agencies and legal advisors in the area of bad debt as required;

  • Carrying out ongoing reviews of credit control and provisioning policies and procedures, proposing and implementing change as necessary.

 

As the Data Protection Representative you will also report to the CEO and will be responsible for:

 
  • Ensuring the credit union is acting in compliance with GDPR legislation;

  • Overseeing and maintaining data protection policies and procedures, personal data register, records and retention management and data breach plan;

  • Coordinating resources required to respond to any subject access requests;

  • Liaising with our Risk & Compliance Officer and providing regular reporting to the Board in relation to data protection matters.

 

The ideal individual for this role will have the following attributes and experience:

  • A good grounding in the credit union/financial services sector, preferably with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience;

  • Prior working experience and a proven track record in credit control work in a credit union / financial services environment;

  • Good knowledge of data protection fundamentals – working experience would be a bonus;

  • Good working understanding of the Progress system, or similar, is essential;

  • A professional business-related qualification, or working towards a relevant similar qualification, is desirable, but not essential. Note: data protection training and supports will be provided as required to the successful individual.
