Financial Accountant
Location: Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

We are currently recruiting for the position of Financial Accountant to join the Credit Union. This full-time and permanent position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Financial Accountant to join our team. This pivotal role will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, ensuring timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Role Purpose:
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting strategic financial planning, working with a high-performing team, and contributing to the overall financial health and governance of the credit union.
In addition to core finance responsibilities, the Financial Accountant will champion continuous improvement initiatives, foster a culture of excellence, and contribute as part of the team liaising during audits and regulatory reviews. Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:

Work alongside the Head of Payments & the CFO to ensure the effective day-to-day operations of the finance function.

Adherence to financial governance internal policy and procedures and associated regulations and legislation.

Prepare daily End of Day office routines and reconciliations

Maintain monthly review and sign off of bank and cash reconciliations

Maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register.

Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.

Ensure compliance with Quarterly and Annual returns to revenue commissioners and regulatory authorities as required.

Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial projections, and AGM reports.

Facilitate interim and annual audit.
Key Requirements:
-
Full or Part-Qualified Accountant with the aim of pursuing a career in Accounting in the Financial Services Sector

QFA qualified or with the aim of completing the QFA Exams

Minimum 3 years’ experience in accountancy practice or a financial management role, ideally within a regulated environment.

Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint

Accounting systems e.g. Sage Line 50 experience.

Credit Union experience would be deemed an advantage but not a necessity

A proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative approach.

High standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
This position will be a full-time, 36 hours per week, position and will be subject to a minimum probationary period of 6 months, primarily based at our Head Office in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications & experience.
