HR & Talent Manager (Ref. SJCU HRM 2025)

St Jarlath’s Credit Union and Athlone & Castlerea Credit Union recently completed a strategic merger and will soon rebrand as West-Midlands Credit Union, one of the largest community Credit Unions both in terms of asset size and team of employees. The role can be based in Tuam or Athlone.

Principal responsibilities of the Role:

The HR & Talent Manager will report to the Deputy CEO and will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing the Credit Union’s HR Strategy, aligned to the businesses overall Strategic Plan. The HR & Talent Manager will develop and implement a robust HR Framework, manage talent acquisition and retention, develop a learning culture supported by a Training & Development infrastructure, all while working collaboratively across the Credit Union to optimise initiatives and be the HR advisor and subject matter expert for HR issues and compliance, for our people leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and operational implementation of the HR Strategy.
  • Enhancing HR policies, acquisition & retention, development and communications processes.
  • Coaching & supporting management on all HR issues, mitigating HR risks as they arise.
  • Effective coaching and development support to employees so they may continue to contribute to the growth and performance of the Credit Union.
  • Driving strategic initiatives as they relate to HR & Talent and supporting management to embed ownership, accountability and execution across the Credit Union.
  • Reporting on HR initiatives and delivery of same to Senior Management ongoing.
  • Collaborate with management to manage the end-to-end talent acquisition process.
  • Advise management on compensation, benefits and recognition programs & benchmarking.
  • Manage and continually evolve the performance management program to ensure it serves the Credit Union appropriately in terms of delivery, service and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and enhance our Learning, Development, Coaching and Succession structures.
  • Lead the HR & Talent function and manage budgets and resources therein.
  • Proactively contribute to the plans and priorities of the function.
  • Ensure the Credit Union’s values and culture are reflected and embedded in all HR policies and initiatives.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Primary qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in People management and implementing HR strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant HR regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Dynamic, creative, positive and self-motivated individual capable of multi-tasking.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. Previous experience in integrating teams an advantage.
  • Experience in communicating in a persuasive, credible manner, in person and in digital settings.
  • An understanding of the evolving Credit Union model and ethos.
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential information.
  • Experience working in the financial service and/or Credit Union sector an advantage.
