IT Support Technician


Summary Objective

The IT/ Support Technician will be primarily responsible for developing and supporting the IT infrastructure, with the key objective of supporting the IT network, employees’ PCs and related software and the Telephone Network to deliver best in class systems.

He/she will provide quality technical support to the staff of St Paul’s Gard Credit Union and clearly communicate technical issues (troubleshooting).

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide PC and related software support to all end-users. Document changes to PC hardware and software and results of troubleshooting issues. Maintain IT asset register of all hardware and software in use.

  • Ensure remote staff have continuous remote desktop services access and VOIP phone connectivity to telephone call centre CTI servers.

  • Work alongside other IT staff in the maintenance of VMWare ESX physical and virtual servers, PC and networking hardware & software.  Perform essential maintenance, security updates and investigation of system and application events that effect performance.

  • Ensure all desktop software utilities e.g. java, dotnet, antivirus, antispam, acrobat, chrome etc are maintained up to date.

  • Provide end user support as first point of contact for core Credit Union financial software prior to escalation to external software supplier.

  • Develop SQL queries to aid end users with data analysis in Microsoft Access and CUInsight data mining tool.

  • Ensure software backups are operating effectively for virtualized servers, financial software and individual PCs. Perform periodic restorations to verify backup integrity.

  • Manage web and spam filtering configurations as needed for effective security.

  • Provide secondary support on firewall, VPN and Vlan security configuration as required.

  • Support other IT staff in maintaining VBA and Python REST based in-house developed applications.

  • Assist other IT staff on various projects as required.

  • Any other duties as relevant to desktop support.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Minimum of one year relevant industry and/or Credit Union support experience.

  • 3rd level qualification in applicable area.

  • Solid experience in IT systems and providing end user support

  • Complete understanding of the general and technical aspects of the role including system applications.

  • Ability to work independently and also in a team environment. Excellent administrative, organisational and support skills. Ability to prioritise issues and escalate accordingly.
  • Solid knowledge of Active Directory Services (local and Azure), Office 365 applications (including Teams and Sharepoint) and networking fundamentals (dhcp, dns, vlan etc).

  • Experience in managing direct relationships with key project stakeholders.

  • Previous programming experience essential, preferably Python.

  • Relevant industry experience BSc or equivalent required.

  • VMWare ESX, SQL creation and relational database management experience, while not essential, would be advantageous.
