Loans Officer

Reporting To: CEO
Primary Location: Stillorgan, Co Dublin.

The Role: 

An opportunity has arisen for a Loans Officer to join the South Dublin Credit Union team.  This role will also incorporate Administrative and Teller duties.  This is an excellent opportunity for a loans officer to be part of a small but dynamic team working hard to deliver on loan growth targets while providing the highest standard of service to both existing and potential members. 
This is a full time role with a requirement to work 34 hours per week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and underwriting loan applications in adherence to the Credit Union’s lending policy and procedures and in accordance with responsible lending practices.  Working as part of the lending team the loan officer will drive the lending function and contribute to the smooth operation of the credit union by undertaking related administrative and organisational tasks including Teller duties when required.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Meet with loan applicants in branch to discuss/understand their loan requirements.

  • Gather loan documentation, review, assess, and underwrite loan applications at all times providing excellent member service, quick turnaround, and quality assessment of loan applications.

  • Grant loans to members in accordance with the credit union’s credit policy, operating strictly within the specified limits of responsibility and authority and practising responsible and prudent lending in accordance with the credit union’s ethos.

  • Prepare all loans outside of the loan officer’s remit, for higher level decision, and present to Lending Committee as required.

  • Look after all aspects of loan administration, including the perfection of data security; ensure safekeeping of credit agreements and other supporting documentation; implement the credit union’s practices regarding filing, scanning, and destruction of documents.

  • Report to the CEO on a regular basis, keeping them informed of all matters relevant to the CU loan book and loan officer’s role.

  • Provide cover for other key areas, such as teller/admin, within the context of a small team as and when required.

  • Attend training courses as required by the credit union.

  • Be aware of and comply with all policies, procedures and Health & Safety regulations as directed by the credit union.

  • Attend and contribute to meetings and committees as may be directed by the CEO and the Head of Operations.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of services for members and to the development of the team by providing suggestions, ideas and opinions to Management in a timely manner.

  • Assist with driving new loan product/service ideas, implementation and marketing.

  • To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be directed from time to time by the Management team.

  • Administrative and Teller Duties as required.

Key Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Excellent oral communication skills, a pleasant manner and empathy when dealing with members on the phone and online

  • A clear ability to develop and maintain friendly and professional relationships with members

  • Experience in personal lending in a credit union, bank, or other credit provider

  • The ability to be flexible and adaptable

  • Excellent I.T. skills

  • Excellent administration skills and attention to detail, be highly organised and have the ability to gather documentation efficiently, provide a quick turnaround, and maintain records and files in a highly compliant and structured manner

  • QFA/ APA in lending is essential

  • Knowledge of the Progress banking system would be an advantage but not essential


Contract Duration:

This is a full-time permanent position subject to a successful 6 month probationary period.

Working Week:

The working week is Tuesday – Friday (9.00 am – 5.00 pm) and Saturday work 9.30 am – 1.30 pm. 
While the role is primarily based in the Stillorgan branch, officers are expected to be available to work in our Donnybrook office from time to time.
