Position: Loans Officer
Reporting To: Head of Lending
Location: Stillorgan, Co Dublin.

An opportunity has arisen for a Loans Officer to join the South Dublin Credit Union team in a full time role (34 hours per week). This is an excellent opportunity for a loans officer to be part of a small but dynamic team working hard to deliver on loan growth targets while providing the highest standard of service to both existing and potential members. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and underwriting loan applications in adherence to the Credit Union’s lending policy and procedures and in accordance with responsible lending practices.  Working as part of the lending team the loan officer will drive the lending function and contribute to the smooth operation of the Credit Union.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet with loan applicants either face to face in branch or by phone, to discuss/understand their loan requirements.
  • Gather loan documentation, review, assess and underwrite loan applications, at all times providing excellent member service, quick turnaround and quality assessment of loan applications.
  • Grant loans to members in accordance with the credit union’s credit policy, operating strictly within the specified limits of responsibility and authority and practising responsible and prudent lending in accordance with the credit union’s ethos.
  • Prepare all loans outside of the loan officer’s remit for higher level decision and present to Management/Credit Committee as required.
  • Report to the Head of Lending on a regular basis, providing updates on KPI’s and keeping them informed of all matters relevant to the CU loan book and the loan officer’s role.
  • Provide cover for other key areas, such as teller, within the context of a small team as and when required.
  • Attend training courses as required by the credit union.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings and committees as may be directed by the CEO and the Head of Lending.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of services for members and to the development of the team by providing suggestions, ideas and opinions to Management.
  • Assist with driving new loan product/service ideas, implementation and marketing.
  • To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be directed from time to time by the Management team.

The ideal candidate should have: 

  • Excellence in communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record in the delivery of customer services to the highest standard
  • Excellent I.T. Skills
  • Ability to work under own initiative with minimal direction
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets, can prioritise tasks under pressure
  • A clear ability to develop and maintain friendly and professional relationships with members and colleagues
  • Experience in personal lending in a credit union, bank, or other credit provider
  • Experience in SME lending is desirable but not essential
  • The ability to be flexible and adaptable 
  • Excellent administration skills and attention to detail, be highly organised and have the ability to gather documentation efficiently, provide a quick turnaround, and maintain records and files in a highly compliant and structured manner 
  • QFA/ APA in lending is essential

Contract Duration and Working Week:

This is a full-time permanent position subject to a successful 6 month probationary period.  The working week is Tuesday – Friday (9.00 am – 5.00 pm) and Saturday 9.30 am – 1.30 pm.
