Member Services Officer/Loans Officer (Dual Role)

Contract Status: Full Time, Contract of Indefinite Duration (32.75 hours per week)
Reporting to: Deputy Manager and the CEO
 
Macroom Credit Union is a progressive, member-focused, community Credit Union whose primary aim is to provide financial services that meet the needs of our growing membership.
 
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Deputy Manager and to the CEO, the Member Services/Loans Officer performs a dual role within the credit union, working as part of the member services team, while also being part of the Lending Team.
 
The Member Services Officer provides an efficient service to our members and is accountable for carrying out a range of administrative and operational activities that contribute to the effective running of the credit union, including responsibility for member services and transactions, cash handling and reconciliations, foreign exchange and general office duties.  The role also involves working in other areas of the business from time to time, including online services (with a current focus on the credit union’s current account), lending, credit control, business development, anti-money laundering and data protection compliance.
 
Lending Officer plays a key role within the lending team in providing a high-quality, efficient and effective lending service to our members, consistent with the credit union’s lending policy and its strategic objectives, including its risk management objectives.  The Lending Officer ensures that members applying for loans receive the highest standards of service across all product and channel types.  More specifically, they:

  • Ensure a first-class lending service to members, in accordance with board policies and office procedures.

  • Provide a lending service to members in accordance with credit union values, in compliance with legislation and regulation, within those limits of responsibility and authority specified in CU policy and procedures.

  • Directly contribute to loan underwriting and decision-making.

  • Contribute to the development of overall credit policy within the CU

  • Help to identify and implement process efficiencies within the lending team.

    • Support the activities of the Credit Committee where required.

  • Ongoing liaison with the wider CU team, including the member services staff, the management team, credit control, operations and marketing functions

NOTE: The role may involve working in both our Macroom office and our suboffice in Coachford.

The Person:
The successful candidate will ideally:

  • Be a team player, who enjoys working with both colleagues and in a customer-facing role.

  • Take pride in delivering superior and high-quality member service in line with the credit union’s culture and values.

  • Have excellent written and verbal English.

  • Be responsive and prompt, following through on tasks, member requests and/or complaints in a timely manner.

  • Be flexible and willing to work in various areas of the business.

  • Take ownership of a problem if it arises, taking personal responsibility for its resolution.

  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in approach, striving to meet performance standards.

    • Have prior experience working in a frontline role within a credit union or similar financial services institution (this would be an advantage).

    • Have a relevant Financial Services qualification (e.g. APA or progressing towards same), or equivalent experience that satisfies the minimum competency requirements of the Central Bank of Ireland

    • Have some previous underwriting experience, ideally in a credit union or other financial services environment.

    • Enjoy work effectively with other team members.

    • Possess strong interpersonal and communication (both spoken and written) skills. 

    • Have good IT skills.

    • Be willing to undertake training to achieve ‘minimum competence’ requirements, as set by the Central Bank of Ireland for the credit union sector, which may be amended from time to time.
