Renumeration:                 €40,490 to €46,170 depending on experience
                                                   Defined Contribution Occupational Pension scheme

The Health Services Staffs Credit Union is a large industrial credit union (over 51,000 members) with a steadily growing loan book which currently stands at €183M.  The credit team is comprised of 10 team members, and is responsible for the underwriting, processing and approval / referral of loan applications received from our members.  Staff from the team constitute the Combined Authority and decide on applications as required by policy.  The Team also provides support to the Credit Committee. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lending Officer to join our team.

Role Description:

The Senior Loans Officer will have a variety of duties within the Credit Team.  They will be required to provide support to members of the team, both administrative and technical.  Such duties to include:

  • Assess credit applications including personal, business, overdrafts and mortgage applications

    • Review borrower’s ability to repay

    • Assembling the paperwork associated with the application

    • Review credit reports

    • Analyse applicants financial circumstances

    • Conduct stress tests as required

    • Deal with the administration of the legal process required in the issuing of mortgages

  • Approving loan applications within approval authorities / policy

  • Contacting members relating to ongoing applications / decision outcomes

  • Reviewing applications to extend / reschedule agreements

  • Preparing and presenting complex loan applications to the Credit Manager / Credit Committee

  • Processing loan applications on the computer systems to reflect ongoing requests and Loans Officers / Committees’ decisions.

  • Deputise as required for the Credit Team Assistant Manager in his / her absence

    • Making appropriate decisions and taking appropriate actions to support the smooth running of the Credit Team

    • Communicating any such decisions / actions to the Credit Team Assistant Manager as required

  • Contributing to the credit policy as part of the team discussions

  • Assisting with / participating on Board Committees, in particular, but not limited to; the Credit Committee.

  • Any other related duties, which may be requested by the Credit Manager or by the Board of Directors via the Senior Management Team from time to time.

  • Adherence to guidelines and policies of the HSSCU

  • Administrative duties associated with the work of the team.

  • Identify the need for training either within the team or throughout the wider organisation

  • To prioritise all tasks required to be completed according to their urgency

  • Making suggestions for improvements in controls on the work

  • Working collectively with peers and team members

  • Assisting with performance management of other team members

  • Contributing to the management of the team

  • Must satisfy Minimum Competency Qualification in line with the requirements of the Central Bank of Irelands Minimum Competency Code
  • Comprehensive knowledge with 3 years’ relevant lending experience
  • Mortgage & overdrafts experience is an advantage. 
    Other Qualifications
  • A relevant third level or professional qualification an advantage
