Job Title:           Senior Mortgage Underwriter
Reporting to:   Head of Mortgage Services

 

CU Mortgage Services DAC, was incorporated in January 2024 as a collaborative entity to support and promote the development of a national brand for credit union mortgage lending.  The company has office in Dublin and regional Mortgage Relationship Managers.  The role of Senior Mortgage Underwriter is a key support service for credit unions that are new to mortgages and developing their mortgage expertise.

Reporting to the Head of Mortgage Services,the Main Responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Assess, underwrite and approve all new mortgage applications within an authorised mandate level
  • Carry out an initial assessment of decision in principle in accordance with credit policy, Central Bank Mortgage Measures and affordability guidelines.
  • Manage mortgage applications and process decisions in principle and letter of offer.
  • Authorise the issue of mortgage offer papers.
  • Review supporting documentation such as credit reports, bank statements, payslips, tax returns etc.
  • Put borrowers at the heart of our business by focusing on good outcomes.
  • Deal with queries and enquiries effectively, accurately, and professionally, delivering excellent customer service.
  • Assess applicants' financial risk and ensure accuracy in all paperwork.
  • Build strong relationships with Mortgage Relationship Managers.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Mortgage Relationship Manager colleagues on mortgage products and lending criteria.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Mortgage Relationship Managers on the mortgage processing system(s).
  • Participate in regular review of mortgage procedures recommending amendments where appropriate. With the aim of delivering a frictionless journey for our borrowers.
  • Make suggestions for improvements to processes to enhance service and efficiency.
  • Assist with other areas of work as requested by the Head of Mortgage Services.
  • Actively participation in projects to improve processes and procedures within underwriting and the mortgage operations.
  • Work to agreed objectives, service standards and deliverables.
  • Train and mentor new team members.
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and development.
  • All other associated duties and responsibilities and carry out any tasks as required by the Head of Mortgage Services.
 

Qualifications and Experience of Successful Candidate

  • Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA)
  • Third level financial / mathematical or business related qualification preferable.
  • Extensive credit knowledge and mortgage underwriting experience (minimum 5 years)
  • Knowledge of all mortgage related matters.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for delivering client outcomes
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of the MS office suite, DocuSign and online mortgage application systems.
 

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
