Martin Busch, President
Office of President ILCU
Martin Busch was elected President of the Irish League of Credit Unions in April 2023. He brings expertise and insights built up over 35 years as a volunteer director and vice-President for Lisburn Credit Union located in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Underpinning Martin’s involvement in the credit union movement is his passion for the role cooperatives and social enterprises can play in creating sustainable communities. He believes that local credit unions elevate the quality of life for all those who live and work in the area through financial enablement and the unique not-for-profit ethos which gives back to the wider community.
Retired from his career in sales in marketing, Martin has also over the years been involved with a range of organisations focused on bringing people together in a stronger, safer community. These include Community Advice Northern Ireland; Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council; Director of Resurgam Trust, a community trust which oversees six social enterprises; Director of TADA, a rural support group in counties Armagh, Down and Antrim; Director of Lisburn Commerce Against Crime (City Watch). Martin has also been a Governor for a local Special School and local Primary School and a member of Peace Plus, a European funding initiative supporting Northern Ireland and border counties in peace building and shared community initiatives.
Alongside his role as President of the Irish League of Credit Unions, Martin is a qualified Credit Union Development Educator, having graduated in Edinburgh in 2011. He currently supports Development Educators Europe (DEEU) as a mentor to new students.
