Credit Union Art Competition invites Artists to 'Imagine the Future'

Posted on: 19 Sep 2025

From robots and rockets to community and climate, the 2025 Credit Union Art Competition is inviting artists of all ages to share their vision of “The Future is…”. Now in its 42nd year, this much-loved competition is one of Ireland’s longest running and most inclusive creative initiatives. Each year more than 25,000 entries are submitted from across the island, making it a highlight of the cultural calendar and a unique platform for self-expression.

At Bunmahon Beach in Waterford, sand artist Sean Corcoran created a sweeping artwork in the sand, a powerful reminder that “The Future Is…” constantly taking shape before our eyes.

This year’s theme encourages artists to look ahead with imagination, hope and curiosity. Participants can illustrate personal goals and milestones, celebrate the possibilities of new technologies, or reflect on the values and dreams they hope will shape tomorrow’s communities. Whether futuristic or personal, the theme offers endless opportunities for creativity.

The Credit Union Art Competition has always placed inclusivity at its heart. It is open to every age group, from children as young as seven to adults aged eighteen and over, with specific categories designed to include and celebrate artists of all abilities. Entrants can create their pieces using a wide variety of traditional art forms including painting, drawing, collage and printmaking, ensuring that everyone has the chance to express their ideas in their own style.

Winning artworks will progress through local, regional and national stages, with prizes presented along the way. Many pieces are also displayed in exhibitions, giving communities the chance to celebrate the imagination and talent of participants of all ages.

Brendan Jenkins, President of the Irish League of Credit Unions, said: The Credit Union Art Competition is a highlight of our calendar each year. It provides people of all ages with the opportunity to express their hopes and dreams in a unique way. This year’s theme, ‘The Future is…’, encourages participants to look ahead with optimism, whether that means imagining new possibilities, celebrating the wonders of technology or picturing the communities and world they want to create.
