Advice for Vulnerable/Cocooning Members

Posted on: 09 Apr 2020

The credit union is making sure the welfare of vulnerable/cocooning members is prioritised at this time. We know some of our members may be unwell, in the older age category, in residential care, and need to use the credit union in order to pay their bills or nursing home fees - with many in this category feeling even more vulnerable now that they are isolated from their everyday activities and social interactions.

Due to the Government advice that persons over 70 years old, or those who are immunocompromised, should remain at home throughout this period, we recommend that such persons should not attend the credit union offices in person.

Services at a Distance

In order to facilitate services at this time, the credit union may contact vulnerable members to advise them of alternative methods of transacting, such as standing orders or direct debits. If you are a vulnerable member and have any queries or concerns in relation to using the services at your local credit union, please don’t hesitate to get in touch for information on how they can help.

Third Party Support

Should you not wish to conduct transactions through possible online services, you could be able to appoint a third party to act on your behalf. Your local union might facilitate this, so reach out to them and ask if it is something they can do. All of these types of transactions will be managed with extreme vigilance.

As each different credit union is managing each case and services differently, please do contact them and see what supports are available to you. You can contact your local credit union here.
