To achieve this purpose, the Credit Union is committed to providing a broad range of innovative financial products and services.

We're now looking for a AML/Regulatory Support Officer to join our team based in our HO in Ballinasloe.

Role Purpose
The AML/Regulatory Support Officer provides support to the Credit Union's business heads (including the AMLCO/Compliance Officer and Risk Management Officer) in the day-to-day operation of the risk management framework and regulatory compliance programme, including anti-money laundering (AML/CTF) obligations. This role assists in ensuring the Credit Union operates safely, soundly, and in line with all applicable legislation and Central Bank of Ireland requirements, while supporting a strong risk and compliance culture across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
AML/CTF Compliance

  • Assist the Compliance Officer/AMLCO in maintaining the Credit Union's AML/CTF policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 (as amended) and Central Bank of Ireland requirements.

  • Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the AMLCO/Compliance Officer, acting as a point of contact for routine AML/CTF queries from staff.

  • Support the business heads in conducting and maintaining the Credit Union's Business-Wide Risk Assessment (BWRA) and Customer Risk Assessments, reviewing and updating regularly.

  • Support Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence processes, including identity verification, source of funds/wealth checks, and PEP screening.

AML Monitoring

  • Carry out day-to-day monitoring of member transactions and account activity, reviewing system-generated alerts for unusual or suspicious patterns.

  • Support ongoing sanctions and PEP screening for new and existing members, including periodic re-screening of the member base.

  • Investigate and document monitoring alerts, gathering relevant information to support the AMLCO/Compliance Officer's decision-making on escalation.

  • Escalate suspicious transactions or activity to the AMLCO/Compliance Officer promptly, in line with internal escalation procedures, for consideration of a Suspicious Transaction Report (STR).

  • Support enhanced monitoring of higher-risk members and accounts (e.g. those subject to Enhanced Due Diligence or PEP status).

  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records and logs of monitoring activity, alerts reviewed, and outcomes/decisions.

  • Assist the AMLCO/Compliance Officer in periodic quality assurance/sample testing of monitoring alerts and decisions to ensure consistency and effectiveness.

  • Support the review of monitoring rules, scenarios and thresholds, feeding back observations to the AMLCO/Compliance Officer to help refine the monitoring approach.

  • Keep up to date on emerging money laundering/terrorist financing typologies and red flags relevant to the credit union sector.

Risk Management Support

  • Support the maintenance of the risk register, ensuring risks are kept up to date following management reviews.

  • Help monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and prepare risk dashboards.

  • Support periodic risk assessments across business functions.

  • Track progress on agreed risk mitigation actions.

  • Assist with business continuity planning and testing.

  • Contribute to the annual review of the Risk Management Policy and related documents.

  • Maintain records of operational risk events and near misses.

  • Provide general administrative support to the risk management function as required.

  • Liaise with internal audit, external auditors, and the Central Bank of Ireland as required, including during inspections or reviews.

 Requirements & Qualifications

  • Relevant third-level qualification and/or a recognised AML/Compliance/Risk qualification (e.g. ACOI, ICA Diploma in AML) is an advantage but not essential.
